Reading Passage

The urban heat island effect — the phenomenon whereby cities experience higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas — has been documented in major metropolitan regions across the world. Researchers attribute this primarily to the replacement of natural vegetation with concrete and asphalt, which take in and retain solar heat more efficiently than organic materials. While tall buildings can partially block direct sunlight in street-level areas, studies suggest this has a negligible effect on overall city temperatures. Municipal authorities in several Asian cities have begun implementing green roof programmes as one measure to counteract the effect, though experts note that such initiatives alone are insufficient to reverse the trend.

Теперь три утверждения — True, False или Not Given?

1. The urban heat island effect occurs because buildings block sunlight from reaching street level.

2. Concrete absorbs solar heat more effectively than natural vegetation.

3. Green roof programmes that have been introduced in some Asian cities are probably too expensive and therefore ineffective to use.
